Common questions

PPF questions, answered straight.

What's the difference between PPF and a ceramic coating?

PPF is a thick physical film that absorbs rock chips and road debris. A ceramic coating is a thin chemical layer that adds gloss, resists UV and stains, and makes washing easier. It won't stop rock chips. Many owners put PPF on the front of the car and coat the rest.

What does a Full Front PPF package cover?

The full hood, full front bumper, front fenders, and mirror backs. Headlights can be added for an additional cost.

How much does PPF cost?

PPF is priced by year, make, and model. Tell us your vehicle and we'll give you a real quote. No inspection is needed.

Can you see the film on the car?

XPEL Ultimate is a high-gloss film that's virtually invisible. XPEL Stealth gives painted surfaces a satin/matte finish. Either way, the edges are hard to spot.

What warranty comes with PPF?

Every install is backed by XPEL's manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, and lifting, coordinated through Unicorn Details.

Do light scratches in the film stay there?

Light swirls and scratches in XPEL Ultimate's topcoat heal themselves with heat from the sun or a warm wash.

PPF for McHenry County Roads

Gravel kicks up on Route 31. Salt trucks run from November through March. Construction zones on Route 14 and Randall Road throw debris at your hood all summer. If you drive in McHenry County, your paint takes hits that wax and ceramic coatings were never designed to stop.

XPEL paint protection film is a physical barrier — a clear, self-healing urethane layer that absorbs rock chips, road salt, and bug acids before they reach your paint. It does not wash off and it does not wear through in a season. Properly installed, XPEL PPF lasts years and keeps your paint looking new underneath.

We are a certified XPEL installer. That means we use XPEL’s Design Access Program (DAP) for precision-cut patterns specific to your vehicle, and every installation is backed by XPEL’s manufacturer warranty. We do not use generic film or freehand cutting on your vehicle.

Our shop at 3980 W Albany St in McHenry serves Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Huntley, and the surrounding area. Call 815-362-0974 or book online for a free consultation.

Paint Protection Film FAQ

What is paint protection film?
PPF is a clear, self-healing urethane film applied to painted surfaces. It absorbs rock chips, road debris, bug acids, and light scratches so your paint doesn’t have to.

How long does PPF last?
XPEL film carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty. With proper care, most installations last the life of ownership.

Can you put ceramic coating over PPF?
Yes, and we recommend it. Ceramic coating on top of PPF adds hydrophobic properties and makes the film easier to wash and maintain.

Where do you apply PPF on the car?
Common coverage areas are the full hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, rocker panels, and A-pillars. We offer partial front-end packages and full-vehicle wraps depending on your needs and budget.

How much does PPF cost?
PPF pricing depends on coverage area and vehicle size. Contact us for a custom quote.
